Pack Ebon Red is the first book in CM Stunich's The Seven Mates of Zara Wolf. It does not grab you immediately like her Rock-Hard Beautiful series, but it doesn't take long before you are fully immersed in this wonderful new world.

Zara, the Alpha-Ki of the Ebon Red pack is in line to become the Alpha of all the North America Packs. First however, she must follow tradition and prove her worth. She must accept her potential mates, fight and defeat all challengers, and conduct a successful hunt. The pairing ritual usually involves just one Alpha-Son, but since the packs are uniting, each pack has sent a son. Her own pack also has a representative, so she has 7 suitors. The pairing will last a year and at the end she will choose her mate. During the year her and her potential mates will fulfll a Contribution. The chosen Contribution will be to discover the answer to a mystery. Werewolves from every pack are missing. They are to locate the missing werewolves or find out what happened to them.

Zara is a kick-ass female lead. She's smart, clever, strong, kind, and she's certainly no coward. She also has unknown potential to restore the werewolves to their former power. Her men are distinct and diverse. The only quality they seem to share is their hotness. Nic, Anubis, Silas, Monty, Jax, Tidus, and Che. She loves Nic, the Ebon Red, but is sexually attracted to each of the guys. But no insta-love. These will be true pairings. There is underlying tension of all sorts that you know is going to get much worse during the next year.

There is a great deal of suspense; with the missing werewolf investigation, with the formal ceremonies, and with teenage best-friend angst. The attention to detail for the ceremonies is remarkable. This was written in a spectacular fashion. It's a complete and complex were world. So Awesome! The supporting cast is richly developed as well. The Alpha Queen Nikolina is formidable, the Grandmother Alpha Majka is one part terrifying, the other hysterical. Her Croatian insults were fantastic! Zara's youngest brother Hugo was every bit as adorable as her younger sister Avita was awful. The other non-humans; Vampires, Fae, and Witches also had developed characters and histories that added layering to the story.

This is such an elaborate, intricate story with wonderful characters. The balance between romance, action, and mystery is well done. This is such a compelling dynamic with all of the changes in the lives of this mini-pack. They have to learn how to best live and work together. They have to explore their attractions, how best to serve the packs. I can't wait for book 2!!

Definitely got me hooked. The writing was a little jumpy though. And it felt like the author was trying to have so much happen in one book (which I can appreciate) that we didn't get much emotional insight into the main character other than the obvious. There's a bit of a Hamlet-vibe going here with the heir who doesn't want the crown. But Zara is determined to make a good Alpha either way. And she's got plenty of messes to contend with.

It's a reverse harem novel, and you meet all 7 mates of Zara in this first book which is nice. But at the same time, you don't get to know much about any of them. They're really just introductions in this first book, which I think works and makes sense. With everything else the reader is being introduced to, in-depth character analysis for ALL the guys would have been a bit much. In this one, you mostly learn about the world, Zara and her friend and family. And that alone provides for some interesting characters.

The only thing I WASN'T a huge fan of is really personal preference. It felt like CM spent a good bit of time describing settings/environments, which just isn't something I've ever appreciated. Not anything too crazy. But it was enough that it felt a little to me like she was planning on this eventually being picked up for a TV series or movie and she wanted the set to be well defined.

All in all, interesting storyline and characters. I'm looking forward to the next installment.
Stunich did it again!!! After reading her Rock-Hard Beautiful RH series, I was anxious to get my hands on her new paranormal RH series. And boy was I surprised to find out the main character had not 5 or 6 men on her tail (literal on the tail) but 7 sexy men!!! YAZZZZ…

This book revolves around Zara who is next in line to be the next shifter Alpha of all North America. Zara must prove to her mother, Nikolina, who is currently the Alpha and her grandmother Majka that she has what it takes to be the next Queen. To do that she has to go through a pairing ritual and not only choose which Alpha will rule with her out of the 7 sexy alphas presented to her but also solve the mystery of the missing were shifters.

I fell in love with Zara’s spunk and caring heart, not only do I feel that she showed strength throughout the book but she didn’t let the other weres cruel words get to her. She is trying to juggle a life of normalcy but also show that she truly can make a difference as the next Alpha Queen.

Now lets talk about these boys. We have Nic, Anubis, Silas, Monty, Jax, Tidus, and Che and I love each and every one of them! But out of all of them I was a bit frustrated with Nic who has known Zara the longest and comes from the same pack. I get why he’s jealous and pissed all the time but COME ON you knew what you were getting yourself into when you joined the pairing, she has six other mates now sooooo yes, she will have sex with them eventually and you need to come to terms with that. All these male alphas have their own unique personalities and it’s no wonder Zara is attracted to them all. I hope to see more interaction with some of the other males in the next books of the series and understand that a decent relationship takes time to build and I’m glad the author didn’t have Zara sleep with all the males right off the bat. There has to be some sort of balance to juggle 7 males and I’m happy the author is doing this slowly. I also hope that Zaras intention of not playing favorites is better known in the other books because I feel that every male should get an equal chance at proving themselves to Zara and not just Nic, this can confuse the other males and I don’t think that’s fair.

Other than that, this book is flipping amazing and can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. Stunich is by far my fave adult RH writer and would recommend her books to everyone!!!
