Zane Grey does not follow a format in his writing as do many authors. He tells a different aspect of Western life and growth in each of his novels. His descriptions of the West are very important to the novels because the western plains, desert, mountains, and rivers were a governing aspect of western life. Without these descriptions, much of the tension of the stories would be lost. Also, he takes us into the minds of the early westerners and how they felt about life, strangers, and honor. He also uses the "tenderfoot" to enhance the difference between eastern and westerns minds. I totally enjoyed "The Drift Fence" and its sequel "The Hashknife Outfit." In fact, all of Zane Grey's books are excellent. Oh yes, Zane Grey liked violet eyes for his "leading lady" and a "white dress" to make her outstanding. And, he has cattle rustling, gunfights, etc., but, if you are interested in learning about an era unique to America, read Zane Grey's books.

I know this is a used book but the it was in pretty bad shape. Because of me reading mostly Zane Grey I am used to reading used books because find new is not easy. And this one is in the worst condition of any I have but that go without getting a cnance to handle the book before buying. I have a couple of used book stores close to where I live and could not find this book. To bad for me because thjis book is so bad. The story will be good but will have to hande very gently. Again because 99% of the books aI read are used I do know how to handle books.
I enjoyed this book immensely. It's a good western with a little romance thrown in. I highly recommend this book.

Zane Grey gets the 5 stars! However, it's full of misspelled words and just dumb mistakes!!
A good western to read in a couple days.
Really good book, but more western day Romeo and Juliet that western specific situation. Jim is stringing barbed wire across the plains, and Molly is part of an open range family. And of course they fall in love. This is truly a good Zane Grey story, but a little different from the norm.
Zone Gray is the pre-runner to our beloved Louis LaMour. Different genre, but a lot like Tony Hillerman and his Navajo stories. I have come to love Zane Gray in the place of all the later manuscripts of Louis LaMour, which seem to be lacking his magical touch from earlier books when he was living.
