I was very pleasantly surprised by Maid to Match. I'm not really one for Christian Romance, but since this one made it onto the list of best Romance novels, I gave it a try. Tillie works as a parlormaid for a very wealthy family and now she's up for the position of lady's maid. She's trained her entire life for this and it's finally happening. Tillie just wants to do good work, support her family, and help those less fortunate than herself. Even if that means never having a family of her own. Then walks in Mack, the new useful man, and he throws a wrench in Tillie's plans.

Maid to Match was very sweet, which I expected. However, it did have a bit of spice to it! Tillie and Mack really challenge each other. Both have goals that they won't be swayed from, and their romance definitely complicates their path to meet those goals. I loved how neither of them was willing to give up their dreams, but also frustrated with them at times because they're both so stubborn! Of course, they have to end up together in the end. Thankfully, it wasn't at the expense of their dreams though. Things change and people change, and they realize things about their life and readjust to make it work.

I really enjoyed Maid to Match. It was sweet without being boring. Sure, I'm use to passionate kisses and sexy times, but they're not really needed. I even enjoyed the side plot of Mack and Tillie and the orphanage. Those Sloops are downright awful people! I'm just glad that there was no literal voice of God going on. Tillie and Mack do have faith and use that to guide their decisions, but God isn't directly answering them back. It was just like reading Historical Romance, but with characters who are religious, and I liked that.

This is such a sweet story. I love sappy, sweet, love stories. They just make me happy. When I am in a foul mood I know I can pick up a "love" story and just be happy. This book did that for me.

Of course it has it's frustrating parts, but that's what keeps me listening ). It's so aggravating listening too a book and knowing that the characters need to get together and they just don't see it. UGH...hehe.

Tillie has dreamt about being a ladies maid for years. Her mother has dreamed of it even longer than that. Tillie's mother prepped her for being a ladies maid her whole life. Tillie is a very determined young woman, and does all she can to take over for Mrs. Vanderbilt's foreign maid when she leaves. What Tillie didn't expect is Mack.

Mmmm....Mack. Handsome, yummy, sweet Mack. Tillie didn't expect Mack. She didn't expect to be drawn to him. She didn't expect Mack to be such a good man. She didn't expect Mack to watch out for her even without her asking. Mack is who all women wish for. hehe. Book boyfriends. HEHE. Mmmm.mmmm...Mack.

This story is so sweet. I loved the setting, the writing, the narrator. Everything. It was just what I was looking for. I love the LOVE story.

If you are looking for a sweet, historical romance this book is just the right thing for you. I loved reading about the house, the way things worked in the house. I love reading about it, but I know I never would have been able to live back then! Even if it gets a little aggravating at times.

This lovely romance is set in Ashville, NC at the Biltmore estate at the turn of the century, and is rich with intriguing details about the estate, the servant class, the social order of the time, and so much more. The author, Deanne Gist, goes to great lengths to make the story historically accurate. Reading this novel is an adventure, exploring a portal to a world that none of us would normally know much about. Today we are in many ways class-less, but at the time this novel takes place, opportunities were carefully circumscribed by social class. The Vanderbilts (who built the Biltmore) differed from many other wealthy people in that they cared for their servants and treated them as people. Still, to be limited by one's birth was hard and this experience is explored in this novel.

It is the story of Tillie, the head parlormaid at the Biltmore, a young lady who has been raised and educated to fulfill a high position in the home of the wealthiest people in the area--an amazing opportunity. When she falls in love she must choose between this dream of her entire life and the man she falls in love with. She must also discern what God's will is in her decision.

Although this is technically a Christian romance, I would call it a "Christian lite" romance, as faith does not have an overt role in the story line. I would expect that this is a novel that would appeal to all fans of historical romance, no matter what their faith leanings.
